This 45-year-old tradition honors the aesthetic beauty\, ecological significance\, and vast diversity of Texas flora while actively advocating for vital conservation efforts. \nThe celebration was established by Texas Woman’s University (TWU) in 1980 to highlight the importance of preserving the state’s natural environment. Since its inception\, the day has focused on educating the public about the delicate balance of the local ecosystem and the necessity of protecting native habitats. \nThe impact of this celebration extends beyond a single day of appreciation. The inaugural event at TWU fostered a renewed interest in botanical studies and environmental stewardship across the state. Today\, Texas Wildflower Day remains a cornerstone for community engagement and the continued preservation of the Lone Star State’s unique natural heritage

SUMMARY:Austin Ikebana Group Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Austin Ikebana Group was founded by Isamu Taniguchi (circa 1902-1992)\, who started building the Taniguchi Japanese Garden when he was 70 years old. Ikebana is more than simply arranging flowers-its Japanese characters mean “giving life to flowers.” This art form has spiritual and philosophical roots\, where the relationship between every flower\, stem\, branch\, leaf\, and even container expresses a balanced and harmonious nature. The feelings of the arranger play a key role as well. Members rotate leading demonstrations and workshops. Because members have trained in various schools of Ikebana\, including Ohara\, Sogetsu\, Ikenobo\, and Ichiyo\, they bring a rich atmosphere of learning and growth to the meetings. This becomes a contemplative practice of expressing gentleness and elegance through the art of flower arrangement. Meetings are monthly on the first Friday at 10am.

SUMMARY:Austin Herb Society Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Since 1983\, the Austin Herb Society has been educating members and the community about herbs\, including propagation\, landscaping\, history\, folklore\, and culinary\, medicinal\, and decorative uses of herbs. While our members are united by an interest in herbs\, they are also a diverse group of individuals: from gardeners and herbalists to cooks and business owners. \nAHS members design and maintain the Zilker Herb Garden-a dazzling landscape of color and fragrance that has become a centerpiece of Zilker Botanical Garden. Here\, visitors can touch\, taste\, and smell they way through nearly 200 varieties of herbs\, depending on the season. Bees and butterflies dot the beds of basil\, lavender\, and calendula. There are classic culinary herbs like rosemary\, mint\, and thyme alongside herbs revered for their health attributes\, including aloe and echinacea. \nIn addition to hands-on learning in the Zilker Herb Garden\, members enjoy: \n\nMonthly meetings with expert speakers on diverse topics (currently via zoom)\nEducational workshops and seminars throughout the year\nStudy groups focused on culinary herbs and herbal products\nField trips to unique gardens and herb-loving businesses\nDelicious herbal refreshments at our in-person meetings\nFellowship with interesting and informed herb lovers\n\nPlease join us in exploring the wonderful world of herbs! \nYou can also find us on Facebook

DESCRIPTION:Attention lavender lovers! The beautiful Blanco Lavender Festival takes place over the weekend of June 7th – 9th.  Visit the sweet little town of Blanco during the Festival\, where there will be food\, drink\, music\, vendors and\, of course\, lots of lavender!! Visit Texas’ First commercial lavender farm and enjoy the Lavender Market on the grounds of the historic old Blanco County Courthouse\, where you can take in some great live music in the park. \nThe Blanco Lavender Festival is a project of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and the major fundraiser for the year for the Chamber.
