Lakeway gardeners, get ready to dig in! A new treasure has sprouted at the Lakeway MUD offices: the Lake Travis Seed Library! This fantastic initiative offers a wonderful opportunity for everyone, from seasoned green thumbs to budding beginners, to cultivate their own gardens.
Join us to celebrate the official opening of the Lake Travis Seed Library on April 22nd from 10AM to 12PM at the Lakeway MUD offices (1097 Lohmans Crossing). Come join us for a seed swap and get pro gardening tips from local experts. Feel free to bring any extra seeds you have and trade with other gardeners.
Imagine accessing FREE seeds for a variety of plants, right here in our community. The Lake Travis Seed Library is more than just a source of seeds; it’s a hub for sharing knowledge and fostering a sustainable, vibrant local ecosystem.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Free Seeds for All: Enjoy fresh, homegrown vegetables and herbs! Whether you’re dreaming of a vibrant vegetable patch or a beautiful native wildflower garden, you’ll find seeds to kickstart your project.
- Central Texas Focus: Learn about sustainable gardening practices and beautify your yard with native plants. The library prioritizes plants native to our region, supporting local biodiversity and promoting water-saving gardening practices. You’ll also find a selection of vegetables and herbs known to thrive in our unique climate.
- The Cycle of Sharing: Connect with fellow gardeners in this community-driven initiative! Once your garden flourishes, you’re encouraged to save seeds from your best crops and return them to the library, ensuring the cycle of growth continues for everyone.
- Gardening Resources: Learn about sustainable gardening practices. Beyond seeds, the library aims to provide helpful gardening resources to assist you on your growing journey.
Donations Encouraged!
The Lake Travis Seed Library is a grassroots effort by local native gardening enthusiasts. To help this community resource thrive, we are asking for your support! Please consider donating seeds you’ve grown or purchased.
Donation Guidelines:
- Veggie and Herb Seeds: Please donate only heirloom or open-pollinated varieties. Hybrid seeds are not suitable for seed saving (the seed packet will clearly indicate the seed type).
