Fall 2023 Earth-Kind Gardening Field Day

Join us for "Gardening in Extreme Conditions” at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Travis County Master Gardeners Fall 2023 Earth-Kind® Gardening Field Day! This family-fun and educational event will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 9 am to 1 pm at the Travis County AgriLife Extension office located at 1600 Smith Road, Austin, TX 78721. Parking is available along Smith Road. The event is free and open to the public. It will be held rain or shine. Attendees will receive a free hypertufa pot courtesy of Leaf Landscape Supply (@leaflandscapesupply) while supplies last. Rose Pruning Workshop

Travis County Master Gardener Holly Plotner will be demonstrating rose pruning starting at 10 am. She’ll discuss the different types of rose growth habits and how you modify pruning to suit each. The class will be outside in the garden so please dress appropriately. The event is free and open to all. No RSVP needed. The first Friday of every month is designated as an open house for the Texas A&M AgriLife Earth-Kind Demonstration Garden at 1600 Smith Road, Austin. You’ll be able to visit the garden and speak with the Travis County Master Gardener volunteers who maintain it and get your gardening questions answered. A special focus will be placed on the value of native plants to provide food and shelter. A special focus will be placed on choosing the right tree that is well-suited to Austin’s climate and soil conditions. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension-Travis County continues their 2024 Texas Tough Plants educational series with 6 D’s of Container Gardening Success, May 8th, 10 am to noon. Not everyone has a yard or plot to garden in. Plant selection is just as important if you grow plants in containers. Kirk Walden, Travis County Master Gardener, will be our final session May 8th at 10 am. Kirk will cover the major considerations and decisions that lead to gardening success – from design and soil to irrigation and sunlight.
